On his actual birthday, we had a little dinner with just us and he opened his presents. And by "he opened his presents", I mostly mean we opened them for him. He didn't really quite understand the concept. :)
He seemed more interested in the cards than in the presents.

The next day, we had a party for him at church. It wasn't fancy or huge, but it turned out well. We had some great people to help us celebrate, and Malachi seemed to thoroughly enjoy the attention. And the food. Especially the chocolate cupcake.
He picked the cupcake up with both hands and started shoving it in his mouth. "Goodness, I like this sugar stuff!"
After cake, we opened presents - again, he didn't really have the hang of it, so Mommy and Daddy had to help him.
Sigh. Isn't he just too cute? I can hardly believe he's a year now...
