On the eternal significance of fixing computers

One of the staff guys here at camp pointed out how hard it can be to stay focused the big picture (God's eternal plan) when your job involves things like fixing computers.  "Success" then means you got someone's computer working again.  It's only a computer, and computers don't have souls.  Is God glorified by countless cummulative hours spent troubleshooting for a machine?

Or it might be washing dishes.  "Great, I finished all the dishes! ...But I'll have to these very same dishes again in only a few hours."  Do dishes matter much in light of eternity?

How about cleaning bathrooms or dining rooms or pools?  Does the eternal God, who "desires all people to be saved", care about those things?

Things like that can seem very small - tedious and insignificant.  And who wants to waste time on insignificant tasks?  Don't we, as believers, want to be spending our time on what really matters?

Being faithful in the place where God has put us is never insignificant.  There is a piece every believer has in God's eternal plan.  No puzzle piece is insignificant.

And as Emily Freeman so beautifully said it, "When the Spirit of the living God lives inside of you, then your living is also your worship.  What else would it be?"

So keep on living.  Wherever God has you - has me - at this moment, keep living for Him.  He may point us in a new direction, or He may want us to simply stay there.  It's our relationship with Him, not what we do, that gives our lives eternal significance.

...Oh, and one more thing?  If I can make you a meal, do your laundry, watch your kids, or just pour cups of coffee so we can visit - I'd be delighted.  Fixing your computer?  Better ask someone else.  ;)
